Some of the projects and initiatives I’m most proud of can be found below. I’d be happy to discuss any of these further, just get in touch!
Areteem's Math Challenge Curriculum
During my time as Areteem’s Director of Curriculum and Instruction, we self-published 40+ textbooks and problem books. The “Math Challenge” series covers topics and problem solving for upper elementary through advanced high school students. These books continue to be used for Areteem’s live and self-paced curriculum. Links to the books are available below:
Mr. John's Thursday Tidbits on YouTube
Known as “Mr. John” to my students, I singlehandedly produced over 100 supplemental videos that were shared on Areteem’s social media. Three playlists are available below.
Math Field Day Partnership with LA County Office of Education
Areteem has partnered with the LA County Office of Education for the countywide LA Math Field Day event since 2018. I oversaw Areteem’s contributions as problem/task writers for the competition and represented Areteem at training workshops and during the annual event. The problems for this event were based on Common Core standards from Grade 4 up to Grade 11. Learn more below:
Teaching Experience
With my extensive background in math and STEM education, I am fully comfortable teaching and explaining anything in K-14 Mathematics as well as most topics in computer science and physics, including but not limited too:
- Problem Solving / Competition Math: Areteem’s Math Challenge Curriculum covers problem solving in pre-algebra/algebra, geometry, counting & probability/combinatorics, and number theory for upper elementary through high school. These topics help for competitions such as Math Kangaroo, AMC 8, MATHCOUNTS, AMC 10+12, AIME, USA(J)MO, and more.
- Problem Solving / Competition Science: Physics Bowl, F=ma (Physics), and USACO (Computer Science).
- School Math: Elementary School, Middle School, and High School Math and Common Core Standards, Algebra I+II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus.
- AP Math and Science: AP Calculus AB+BC, AP Computer Science A, and AP Physics 1+C.
